The College warmly congratulates its Librarian, Chris Baghos, following the conferral of the Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Sydney. He completed his doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Dr Vrasidas Karalis, Sir Nicholas Laurantus Professor and Chair of the Department of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies.

Chris’ thesis was on the subject of ‘Saints, Animals, and Techne from Byzantium to Britain,’ and was generously examined by two highly distinguished scholars, namely, the Very Rev. Professor John P. Manoussakis (Department of Philosophy, College of the Holy Cross, USA) and Associate Professor Charalambos Ventis (Faculty of Theology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens). The thesis attempts to demonstrate how the Byzantine, Continental, and Insular hagiographical depictions of ascetics as redeemers of the created order throughout the first millennium attest to a shared spirituality and common perception of reality on the part of the ‘Greek East’ and ‘Latin West’; two vast regions often categorised independently.
