These programs offer male and female trainees the opportunity to learn from their own pastoral interactions with residents in an aged care setting using the action-reflection method of supervised pastoral training under the guidance and instruction of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited mentors affiliated with The Mental Health CPE Centre.
In 2025, the CPE programs will incorporate supervised training at the following locations:
3 March – 31 March: Intensive CPE
Location: [Redfern campus]
5 Tuesdays, 9:00am-1:00pm
No academic credit points are awarded for the Intensive CPE alone. But the Intensive CPE is offered as a preparation for enrolling in the full CPE in Aged Care Ministry (400 hours) which (upon completion) ordinarily attracts 18 credit points towards a course of study.
5 May – 17 November: CPE in Aged Care Ministry (400 hours)
Location: St Basil's Homes, Lakemba & Kogarah NSW
25 Tuesdays, 8:30am-2:30pm (except during NSW public school holiday periods)
7 May - 19 November: CPE in Mental Health Ministry via Zoom (400 hours)
25 Thursdays, 8:30am-12:30pm (except during NSW public school holiday periods)
Protocols for visits to health care facilities by supervisors and students/trainees is governed by the NSW Health Department. If at any time public health orders in NSW prohibit onsite visits to these care facilities then these visits will be replaced by training sessions conducted through Zoom video-conferencing.
Admission into the CPE program is determined by the mentor/supervisor. An admissions interview may be requested.
These programs may be undertaken as discrete qualifications on their own, issued by The Mental Health CPE Centre (registered with the NSW College of Clinical Pastoral Education Inc.), or as accredited units with academic credit towards certain undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the Australian University College of Divinity.
Cross-institutional study for academic credit may also be available upon request.
Admission
1. The size of the trainee group in the CPE is normally limited to a maximum of six persons.
2. Applications should be received not later than 30 January 2026. Please contact the Registrar.
