On Saturday 4 June, College student Deacon Kyprianos Nerouppos was ordained to the holy priesthood by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Eustathios (South Melbourne, VIC). Also in attendance were His Eminence Metropolitan Ezekiel of Derbe and Their Graces, Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis and Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, along with several clergymen. The previous day, Fr Kyprianos had been ordained to the holy diaconate at the same church, by His Eminence. In his guiding speech to the newly ordained priest, His Eminence urged him, among other things: “Do not rush. If you want to see the fruits of your labours, wait, because everything takes time. Only weeds grow effortlessly, even overnight. The Church does not try to impress, it works systematically and quietly. Your pastoral interventions should be measured, weighed and be a product of prayer and discernment.” Fr Kyprianos has studied and worked in the field of biochemistry. However, God has blessed him and turned his steps towards the path of theology, and to fulfilling one of his childhood dreams which was to enter the priesthood and to serve the Church at the Holy Altar. Fr Kyprianos and Presbytera Sophia are blessed with three children. He will serve as the parish priest of the Greek Orthodox Church of St Andrew in Forest Hill, VIC, as of the forthcoming Feast of Pentecost.
During the same Liturgy, His Eminence also ordained Kyriakos Tsapas (DipChSt, 2016) to the holy diaconate. Dn Kyriakos will serve at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Haralambos in Templestowe, VIC, assisting his spiritual father, Fr Elias Kentrotis.
