On Sunday 1 May, College alumnus, Dn Nicholas (Eric) Carmona Torres (BTh, 2021), was ordained to the holy priesthood by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Catherine (Mascot, NSW). Fr Nicholas was born and raised in Mexico before moving to Australia with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Andrea and eventually coming to Sydney for his theological studies these past few years. He will serve as an itinerant priest according to the needs of the Archdiocese.
Towards the end of the same liturgy, parish priest Fr Stavros Ivanos (BTh, 2004) was elevated to the office of Protopresbyter by His Eminence. Fr Stavros was ordained to the holy diaconate in May 2006 and to the holy priesthood in October 2008. Fr Stavros served as assistant parish priest at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Euphemia in Bankstown, Sydney, for two years prior to undertaking pastoral commitments at St Stephanos in Hurlstone Park from 2010-2021. He was assigned in recent months to St Catherine’s.
