Ordination

Ordination

On 5 December, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, College Lecturer and Chief Publishing Officer of St Andrew’s Orthodox Press, Dr Mario Baghos, was ordained to the holy diaconate by His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia at the Greek Orthodox Church of our Lord’s Resurrection (Kogarah, NSW). As well as being an important event for the newly ordained deacon, it was equally significant for His Grace in that he conducted an ordination for the first time since being consecrated a bishop on 14 November. Deacon Mario will continue at St Andrew’s as lecturer in Patristics and Church History and has also been assigned to the same parish to work alongside Bishop Christodoulos (Parish Vicar) and the Very Revd Fr Athanasios Giatsios (Assistant Parish Priest). All three clergymen are alumni of the College and began their common ministry for the parish with a sense of enthusiasm, faith, hope and love. Deacon Mario was born and raised in Sydney. After completing his BTh at St Andrew’s by the end of 2008, he went on to further studies and completed his PhD with the University of Sydney in 2015. He and his wife, Victoria (Katherine), are blessed with a young daughter Ludmila.
