On 24 October 2014 (main hall, 10.00 - 12.30), Dr Anna Silvas, FAHA, from the University of New England (Armidale NSW), will offer at St Andrew's a series of two talks, ''Nexus of Greek, Syriac and Latin Christianity: St Basil the Great's Small Asketikon'' and ''Was St Basil the Great a mystic? Was he a mystical theologian?'' The first presentation will be illustrated by an icon ''written'' for this occasion by master iconographer Michael Galovic. The icon represents Saint Basil, the author of the Asketikon, flanked by Saint Eusebius of Samosata, its translator into Syriac, and Blessed Rufinus of Aquilea, its translator into Latin. On this occasion, Dr Silvas, a great friend of the College, will be introducing her latest book, Basil of Caesarea: Questions of the Brothers. The event will be moderated by Protopresbyter Dr Doru Costache and is open to the public.
