Celebrating Nicaea: One-Day Seminar in Perth

On Saturday 29th November 2025, St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College presented a one-day seminar in Perth, on the topic “Celebrating Nicaea” as part of its Adult Faith Education initiative proposed at a recent Council meeting with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the College’s President and Dean.

Hosted by the Church of St Nektarios, Dianella, the event was chaired by Fr Eleftherios Gerovasilis and attended by over 80 people. Talks were given by faculty of the college: Professor Angelo Karantonis and Dr Lydia Gore-Jones.

The day began with the welcome speech given by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth. Subsequently, three main talks were delivered, followed by group discussions which sought to allow attendants to summarise, understand and articulate the main topics presented throughout the seminar. The attendants were also given opportunities to ask their questions to the panel made up of His Grace Bishop Elpidios, Fr John Athanasiou of St Nektarios parish, Fr Eleftherios Gerovasilis, and the two lecturers.

Professor Anglo Karantonis presented on the topic, “The Importance and Legacy of the Nicene Creed.”

Dr Lydia Gore-Jones presented on the topic, “The Nicene Creed: The Symbol of the Apostolic and Biblical Faith and Our Way of Life.”

She then outlined the different study opportunities available at the College.

To close the day, a vespers service was conducted by His Grace Bishop Elpidios.
