2014 Opening Doxology Service

2014 Opening Doxology Service

On February 27, St Andrew’s Theological College commenced the new academic year with its annual Doxology Service in the College Chapel of St John the Evangelist and Theologian. The service was officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos, together with His Grace Bishop Seraphim of Apollonias and His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis. At the conclusion of the service, His Eminence welcomed the Very Revd Abbot Fr Eusebios of Pantanassa Monastery along with all faculty members and students of the College. His Eminence emphasised that the purpose of the service was to give thanks to God for the commencement of the twenty-ninth year of studies in what he affectionately referred to as our ‘little College’. The Archbishop then affirmed that the College serves to remind people of various Christian traditions of that which they continue to have in common, namely, the heritage of the first Christian millennium. Indeed, His Eminence highlighted the fact that the basic Christian dogmas were formulated during this first millennium, which he then contrasted to the second millennium, stating that the latter was marked by disputes and unreasonable demands. His Eminence went on to assert that the third millennium ought to be the millennium of repentance for all Christians who must attempt to love one another in spite of their differences.

He then presented a copy of the Greek New Testament to each of the new full-time seminarian students as a tangible sign of their connection to the College: Nicholas Feros (Brisbane), Jason Israel (Sydney), Chrisovalanti Spyrou (Sydney) and Michael Triantis (Sydney). The doxology was followed by a customary group photograph and the luncheon prepared by the generous volunteers of the Ladies Philoptohos.
