On Monday 13 June, the Great Feast Day of the Holy Spirit, College student Deacon Irinaios Koikas was ordained to the holy priesthood by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Hobart, Tasmania. His Eminence concelebrated the divine liturgy with Their Graces Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis and Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis. In his guiding speech to the newly ordained priest, His Eminence urged him not to be discouraged and to walk with confidence, faith, love and a lot of silence, while he stated with certainty that he will be accompanied by the prayers of the former Geron Archbishop of Crete, Irenaeus, whose name he bears. Fr Irinaios will serve as the parish priest of the Greek Orthodox Church of St George in Hobart.
