Our Faculty Member, Dr Andrew Mellas, recently published a paper in a volume of Studia Patristica: ‘Performing the Symphony of Salvation: Liturgical Mysticism in the Hymns of Romanos the Melodist’. The publication follows a paper on the same topic that Dr Mellas presented at the 2019 International Patristics Conference held in Oxford. The paper explores St Romanos’ second hymn on the Nativity of Christ and suggests that the performativity of Byzantine hymns could open a liminal space where the faithful could behold the panorama of salvation history.
