Guest Lecture

On Wednesday 5 November 2014, upon the invitation of Protopresbyter Dr Doru Costache, Mr Anthony Papantoniou (doctoral candidate with the University of Sydney) offered a lecture on Saint Nicholas Cabasilas and his treatise The Life in Christ for T7383 Later Byzantine Patristic Theology. Both the host and the students were impressed by the lively and erudite talk of the presenter. Father Doru shared the following thoughts:

"Anthony at his best! He skilfully dealt with the enigmatic biography of this tremendous Byzantine father, offering us fresh insights into an otherwise incomplete dossier and stirring us to ask questions and comment on his challenging propositions. The second part of the lecture, an exploration of the signature treatise of Cabasilas, The Life in Christ, was welcomed by the attendance with equal enthusiasm, which led to a discussion of the rapports between the liturgical and hesychast theologies of late Byzantium."
