Ordination

On Saturday 2 April, College alumnus, Fr Meliton (Nicholas) Haridemos (BTh, 2021), was ordained to the holy diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas (Canberra, ACT). Deacon Meliton was born and raised in Canberra before moving to Sydney for theological studies from 2018-2020. Fr Meliton currently serves as a deacon to His Eminence.

He was tonsured a monk by His Eminence on 9 March at the Holy Monastery of St George (Yellow Rock, NSW) and given the name ‘Meliton’ in honour of Saint Meliton, one of the youngest of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste (d. 320 A.D.) commemorated that same day, and in honour of both the late Metropolitan Meliton of Chalcedon (1913-1989), and His Eminence Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia (b.1951).
