Curriculum Objectives

This module aims at giving the student the foundational understanding for identifying the structure of the common liturgical services (Vespers, Mattins, Liturgy).

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Identify the liturgical books used in the common liturgical services.
  2. Understand the terminology for locating the content of the common liturgical services.
  3. Recognise the structure of the common liturgical services, what parts of services are fixed, and what parts change according to regular liturgical cycles.
  4. Demonstrate the structure of common liturgical services using the liturgical books.

Assessment Profile

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the terminology and basic structure of services, e.g. quizzes.
  2. Demonstrate how the books are used in practice, e.g. in class participation, and practical exam.
