Curriculum Objectives

This Module aims at giving the student the skills for chanting the melodies found on various major feasts.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Identify the hymns that are chanted on various major feasts.
  2. Chant selected music for the hymns found on various major feasts.
  3. Apply the changes in various services that occur on major feasts.

Content

  1. Selects hymns (eg. Katavasies, Antiphons, Axion Esti, Communion hymns, Eidomen) for various major feasts.
  2. Great Hours for Christmas and Epiphany)

Assessment Profile

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of what hymns are to be chanted on various major feasts, eg. quizzes.   
  2. Perform selected melodies for various major feasts, e.g. in class participation, and practical exam.
